What We Do to Safeguard Our Employees’ Mental and Emotional Health

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused mental health concerns to skyrocket.

This period of uncertainty has been a source of anxiety for many. At Square Enix Montréal, we have made protecting the mental and emotional health of our employees a priority by implementing and consolidating programs and initiatives that focus on encouraging dialogue, empathy, and wellbeing.

We are committed to our employees' wellbeing and to walking the talk when it comes to putting people before products, especially in time of crisis.

Flexible Working Time Policy

Work-life balance has been one everyone’s mind since March 2020, but it is not a new concern.

With the approval of their manager, every Square Enix Montréal employee can work an atypical schedule such as reduced working hours or a condensed or staggered week.

We recognize the benefit of providing employees with a work schedule that accommodates their personal and professional obligations.

Reduced Work Week

To address the stress of professional and personal obligations that have been compounded by social isolation, we have adopted a reduced work week as a permanent measure.

Square Enix Montréal employees gets every second Monday off with pay, meaning 2 long weekends a month.

What we call our Magic Mondays provide space to unwind, relax, and spend time on personal projects and activities.

24/7 Healthcare

Every member of our team and their family members have free 24/7 access to an online telemedicine service. Being able to consult a physician immediately from the comfort of home has never been more important than in the past months.

Services include home delivery of prescriptions, referrals to health specialists, access to mental health professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, and more.

Increased Insurance Coverage

To ensure that every member of our team receives the care they need, we have doubled the amount covered by our group insurance for mental health care, which now includes the services of psychotherapists, psycho-educators, and cognitive behavioural therapies.

Our team can also sign up to an online cognitive behavioural therapy platform that lets them to complete self-learning models therapy at their own pace. A dedicated care manager is available to guide them through their journey to well-being.

Employee and Family Assistance Program

Our team has access to immediate and confidential licensed counselors and professionals to tackle life’s challenges through to our Employee and Family Assistance Program.

Professionals are available 24/7 to assist with issues related to stress, depression, anxiety, relationships, parenting, and more. Every call to the service is immediately assessed to determine the urgency of the situation. In case of an urgent crisis situation, the caller is automatically transferred to a counsellor.

A Space to Speak Up

It’s not always easy to share feelings in a professional setting. To offer a safe space to engage in an open dialogue and spark important conversations, we have adopted the OfficeVibe platform that invites every employee to share feedback, concerns, and questions anonymously.

Managers have been trained to respond to messages and help employees cope with the challenges they face.

Support to Care Givers 

For many working parents, the last 2 years have been a blur of homeschooling and entertaining toddlers.  

To help parents who must manage the responsibilities of work and childcare, we have partnered with Kiid Concierge, a platform that offers on-demand service for booking trusted babysitters, early childhood educators, and tutors. Every employee has free access to the platform. 

Morale Boosting Activities 

From the onset of work at home orders, we have organized activities and developed online spaces to help employees cope with isolation. 

Everyone is invited to hang out with colleagues in online coffee break rooms or participate in weekly quizzes on Slack.  

Over the past 24 months, our team has received home deliveries of ready-to-heat meals, Halloween candy, Advent calendar for the little ones, and more. 

Recently, to ensure that no one felt alone during the Holiday break, we created a Slack channel where anyone could connect to find someone to talk to or with whom to play games online. 

As we look to the years ahead, whatever they may bring, our goal is to continue to break the stigma around mental health and to pursue our investment in our employees’ emotional wellness.
