Square Enix Montréal Reveals New Brand Identity Focused on Strong Values and Company Culture
Montreal, November 9, 2020 – Square Enix Montréal, an award-winning mobile game studio, today unveiled a new corporate branding and website. The studio’s visual identity draws on its existing brand equity and a people-first company culture that empowers creativity and innovation to deliver the highest quality free-to-play mobile games on the market.
Developed in collaboration with creative agency Hula Hoop, the studio’s overarching visual message sets the stage for announcements and launches in 2021.
“As we look forward to bringing new games to market in 2021, it was crucial that we stand out with a powerful employer brand, clear vision, and promise to our players that our entire team would be proud of and rally around,” said Patrick Naud, Head of Studio of Square Enix Montréal. “Our success will be driven by a strong company culture that is supported by the values of entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity, inclusion and being player-centric. The common thread in all our communications is that we put people first and never compromise quality. We are ready to stake our claim as a leading mobile game developer in the F2P space.”
With this rebrand, Square Enix Montréal also introduces a bold brand promise that will guide the next phase in its development: The Mobile Games of Tomorrow, Today. This core message reinforces the company’s mission of empowering its individual and collective creativity to create memorable mobile games.
Designed to be instantly recognizable and work effortlessly across physical and digital channels, Square Enix Montréal’s new visual identity pays homage to the past while looking to the future.
The design draws on the shapes used in the logos of the studio’s iconic series of GO games and on geometric graphic elements inspired by the letters that make up its name. These building blocks exemplify the care that Square Enix Montréal’s team puts into each phase of game development and how individual talents support each other to achieve a common vision.
“The idea behind the rebrand is to communicate that Square Enix Montréal stands for the highest level of creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation in mobile game development,” said Mathieu Piau, Director of Brand Marketing & Communications of Square Enix Montréal. “By investing in a meta-brand in the same way as we invest in branding our game properties, we will ensure constant, coherent and engaging communications across all touchpoints and help the studio recruit and retain top talent. A brand is more than a logo, it is a guiding principle that reflects what we stand for as a company and what we offer our employees, players, and partners.”
Included in Square Enix Montréal’s rebrand is an updated logo based on the iconic mobile app shape, clearly communicating the studio’s identity as a mobile game developer.
The studio also launched today a completely redesigned website focused on company culture and recruitment. The new website includes all new video content, simplified navigation by job category, and employee profiles.
