Since International Women’s Day calls for unity and advocacy, Ludia Games, Gameloft Montreal, and Square Enix Montréal have joined forces to present Next Lev’elles (“elles” is the third-person plural pronoun in French), a cross-studio virtual event celebrating exceptional women in the video game industry.
These three leading Montreal-based mobile game studios have come together to present inspirational and aspirational talks given by women who have made their mark across various disciplines. With representation from all three studios, these women are eager to share their success stories and their challenges.
The virtual conference will be offered at noon EST on March 8 and will include a keynote address by Rebekah Valentine (reporter, IGN) and a panel featuring Kim Derome (Composer and Sound Designer, Square Enix Montréal), Leslie Martin (Technical Artist, Ludia Games), and Marianne Barousse (Director of Online, Security, and Infrastructure Services, Gameloft Montreal).
Throughout the event, conversations will be moderated by Ève Laurier, General Manager of Edelman Montreal and an award-winning communicator.
In addition, as the event will be bilingual, English and French subtitles will be provided to participants during the presentation.
By giving a platform to these remarkable women, Square Enix Montréal, Gameloft Montreal, and Ludia Games want to encourage more women and girls to envision a career in the video game industry. With women making up 50% of mobile game players1, the sector only stands to benefit from being more representative of its audience and will gain new creative perspectives from an increased diversity of voices.
Tickets are available for a token amount of $1. The studios encourage additional donations for La rue des Femmes, a non-profit organization that welcomes and cares for women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. When registering for the event on Eventbrite, participants can select an amount to donate to support women in need.
