At My Desk by Agathe Fallet, Recruiter

HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU WORKED IN THE VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY?

A little over 2 years.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT SQUARE ENIX MONTRÉAL?

I help teams recruit their future colleagues.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE 9?

Archaeologist or paleontologist. I spent a lot of time digging through the ground hoping to find a fossil or an artefact ...

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY OF A RECRUITER AT SQUARE ENIX MONTRÉAL?

The first few hours of my day are usually spent answering emails and sorting applications.

I then follow up with interviews and meetings, particularly with team managers to take stock of their recruitment needs and advise them on the strategies to adopt to attract the best talent.

Part of my day is also dedicated to "sourcing" (proactive search for candidates).

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO IN THE MORNING BEFORE TURNING ON YOUR COMPUTER?

I chat with my cat over my coffee and check if my indoor and outdoor plants are doing ok.

WHAT TOP 3 SKILLS DOES IT TAKE TO BE GOOD AT YOUR JOB?

  • A good sense of priorities: When I have a lot of tasks to accomplish in a day, or a week, I like to make lists and prioritize. It helps me to be more efficient and manage things more calmly.
  • Adaptability: Team needs may change. Technical issues during interviews are frequent. The perfect candidate may no longer be available, etc. ... Things rarely go smoothly.
  • Enjoy talking and interacting: Whether with managers, candidates, or my team, I am sometimes on videoconference calls. Although it can be exhausting, it is also what i love about my job.

WHAT IS PEOPLE’S BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT YOUR ROLE?

That we spend our days on LinkedIn….

But it is still one of our main working tools.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING ON YOUR DESK YOU COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT AND WHY?

My Muji 0.38 pen (this article not sponsored!) and my notebook. I'm still very 'old fashioned' and like to take written notes.

HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR COFFEE MAKING SKILLS?

If you like very strong coffee, without sugar or milk (without anything!), but freshly ground every morning, then yes, I am a great barista!

SWEATPANTS WHILE WORKING REMOTE. YAY OR NAY?

Yay! But be careful not to make the same mistake as me: when you wear Pokemon (or other) pyjama pants, do not stand up during a ZOOM call, you risk losing credibility or making your colleagues laugh ...

You'd like amazing colleagues like Agathe?
