Square Enix Montréal Marks its 10th Anniversary with $100,000 in Donations to Local Organizations in the Fields of Education, Diversity, Inclusion, Health, and Poverty Reduction
Square Enix Montréal partners with Centraide of Greater Montreal, Opération Enfant Soleil, Concertation Montréal’s Le Mouvement montréalais Les Filles & le code, and Project 10 to support the community
Montréal, January 25, 2022 - Square Enix Montréal, the award-winning studio behind Hitman Sniper®, and the GO® series, today announced that it will give back to the Greater Montreal community that it has called home for 10 years by making 10 donations to local non-profits organizations for a total of $100,000. The causes were selected by Square Enix Montréal employees as being the most important to them and their communities, and true to the Studio’s values.
Developed in partnership with Centraide of Greater Montréal, Opération Enfant Soleil, Concertation Montréal’s Le Mouvement montréalais Les Filles & le code, and Project 10 the donations will benefit individuals and families impacted by poverty, isolation, and discrimination; support paediatrics care, and encourage greater long-term diversity in the video game industry.
“We are lucky to be part of the mobile games industry that has continued to grow during the pandemic. As such, we could not celebrate our Studio’s 10th anniversary without giving back to the community where we live and work, with a focus on providing support to vulnerable populations and ensuring greater inclusion,” said Patrick Naud, Head of Studio of Square Enix Montréal. “I would like to thank our employees who helped select these great causes and, more importantly, recognize the staff and volunteers of these organizations who are on the frontline every day.”
Centraide of Greater Montreal - Build Stronger Communities
The pandemic highlighted major social issues and inequities and placed added pressure on community organizations.
In partnership with Centraide of Greater Montreal, 6 donations will be made to help community organizations respond to the growing demand for help in the following axes of intervention:
- Network of women centers
- Camps for vulnerable youths
- Integration and welcoming services for immigrants
- Network of family resource centers
- School perseverance
“We thank Square Enix Montréal and its employees for their mobilization to support their community,” said Claude Pinard, President and Executive Director of Centraide of Greater Montreal. “This donation on the occasion of their 10th anniversary is a testament to their commitment to the community and represents the continuation of the partnership established with us three years ago to support the most vulnerable. The company and its employees recognize Centraide's expertise in investing effectively where the needs are greatest. Their support is all the more valuable in times of pandemic, since the crisis has had a disproportionate impact on people living in poverty and social exclusion."
Opération Enfant Soleil - Provide the best care for children through the power of video games
Square Enix Montréal is proud to announce that it will be the Presenting Sponsor of the Extra Life marathon and Jouer pour Guérir in Quebec for 2022. Throughout the online events, Square Enix Montréal will elevate the profile of women in games by featuring specially created content showcasing women players and industry professionals.
"We are happy to welcome Square Enix Montréal as the presenter of the next edition of Jouer pour Guérir which will be held on June 5th as part of the 35th Operation Enfant Soleil Telethon!" said Julie Lemieux, CEO of Opération Enfant Soleil. "Thanks to their generosity and that of all video game enthusiasts who will combine passion and philanthropy, we will be able to make a real difference in the lives of sick children by supporting hospitals across Quebec. Thank you!"
Mouvement montréalais Les filles & le code - Encourage Girls’ Interest in Science and Technology
Square Enix Montréal is invested in building a more diverse video game industry by encouraging the interest of girls at a young age in science and technology.
In collaboration with Concertation Montréal’s Le Mouvement montréalais Les Filles & le code, Square Enix Montréal has renewed its support of Les Scientifines and Technovation Montreal, two organizations that promote STEM to young girls ages 8 to 18 to build self-esteem, develop skills such as entrepreneurship, and count school drop-out rates.
The Studio’s support will help make programs, such as homework help, scientific activities, and app development workshops available to more participants through financing of additional human and material resources.
“By renewing its donations to the Scientifines and Technovation Montréal, Square Enix Montréal encourages the next generation of women to acquire the skills of the future and takes concrete action, today, for tomorrow's parity in technology industries,” said Richard Deschamps, President of Concertation Montréal. “Concertation Montréal and its Mouvement montréalais Les Filles & le code salute this generosity. We are pleased to have facilitated the partnership between Square Enix Montréal, Les Scientifines and Technovation Montreal, thus fulfilling one of our objectives: to connect those who are working to get more girls and young women interested in careers in technology.”
Project 10 - Support 2LGBTQ+ Youth Safety and Empowerment
Square Enix Montréal is committed to building a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse workplace and to doing its part to promote social inclusion.
The Studio has also renewed its support of Project 10, a Montreal-based organization that works to encourage the personal, social, sexual, and mental wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit, intersex, and questioning (2LGBTQ+) youth and adults 14-25.
Square Enix Montréal’s support will give more participants access to programs such as individual listening sessions, referrals for trans health, gender gear, etc.
“Project 10 is immensely grateful for the donation that Square Enix Montreal has given us to help support the important work that we do for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth,” said Mitchell Rae, Executive Director of Project 10. “As a non-profit community organization focused on working with young people 14 to 25, games can often play a major role in the lives of the participants here at Project 10, making the generosity of Square Enix Montréal that much more palpable for those using our services. This partnership will help to guarantee that queer and trans youth can have access to our programs, and it will enable us to give away hundreds of gender-affirming items for free to those who may need it most.”
